Halfway through the year, it’s easy to feel tired or stuck. Maybe your team is slowing down, energy is low, or everything feels a little harder than usual. On top of that, there’s a lot of fear in the air—job cuts, AI changes, company shake-ups, and low employee motivation.
This is a good time to pause and ask yourself:
Am I still leading with purpose?
Not just going through the motions, but really staying true to why you started leading in the first place. Here are five simple ways to reset and keep moving forward—even when things feel uncertain.
Remember Why You Lead
In busy or scary times, it’s easy to forget what matters most. Take a few minutes to think about why you chose to be a leader. What kind of impact do you want to make? What do your people need from you right now?
Quick check-in: Ask yourself: “What kind of leader do I want to be today?”
Talk Honestly About What’s Hard
You don’t need to pretend everything is okay. When you’re honest about tough times, your team will trust you more. That trust helps everyone feel a little more steady.
Try this: Say, “I know things are uncertain right now. I don’t have all the answers, but I believe we’ll figure it out—together.”
Take One Step Forward
Fear can freeze people. The best way to break through that is by taking action—small steps, done on purpose. Look at your team goals. Which ones still feel important? Which ones need to change?
Reset idea: Pick one goal that matters and focus your team on it this month. Let it bring back some energy and direction.
Connect with Your People
When fear is high, people often pull back. As a leader, this is your chance to lean in. Take time to really check in with your team—not just about work, but about how they’re doing.
Easy action: Ask someone, “What’s giving you energy right now—and what’s draining it?
Show Up, Don’t Be Perfect
Leaders don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be present, honest, and willing to take the next step. That’s what real leadership looks like—especially when times are hard.
Mid-year reminder: I don’t need to have all the answers. I just need to keep showing up.
