Reflecting on Life: Wisdom and Lessons Learned on My Birthday

July 29, 2021

On July 25th (All my Leos stand up!) I celebrated the anniversary of my birth and although the knees may become a bit weaker, I’m still young at heart and living a purposeful life everyday! This is a time where we not only eat cake, celebrate, and get gifts, but in my family, we also reflect on how much we’ve grown in the past year. As you grow each year and you experience the world, here are some things to consider:

1. Where am I putting my time and effort?

Oftentimes we get caught up in the routine of life that a precious resource such as time goes by without us even knowing. This pandemic has shown us that in the blink of an eye, things can change and you can lose the opportunity to spend time with the people you love. Is your career aligned with your purpose? Are you passionate about the things you’re doing? Is your lifestyle allowing you to be with the people you care about? It’s a perfect time as any to re-evaluate where you were, where you are, and also where you want to go. Be clear and intentional in living a life that makes you happy.

“The most precious resource we have is time.” – Adam Neumann

2. Where am I allocating my resources?

Resources like energy and money should be something we think about in terms of how well we use them. Being able to utilize your resources in the best way possible means a happier and healthier being. Some of us have suffered from the newly found “Zoom fatigue” among other activities that leave us feeling stressed or burnt out. Prioritizing the most important things in your life allows you to focus on what will impact the bigger picture. Combining this with such precious resources as time and effort is something we should always think to do. What can you do today to bring you closer to the life you want to lead?

3. What community am I building?

Networking has proven to be a great skill in my pursuit of purpose--building positive relationships with people that have a common goal is something we all should strive for! Building connections isn’t merely exchanging contacts, but building and nurturing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with people that you meet. Who are you surrounding yourself with? They say if you hang around four millionaires, you’re more than likely going to be number five. This means you should be very deliberate with the people around you!

Whatever you invest your time, efforts, and resources in will multiply! Ensure that you take time to reflect, re-group, and grow as we all try to live a life of purpose! It matters not where you are now, but where you are trying to go and if you’re on the right path. Start confused; start without all the answers, but don’t let time slip away and let you fall into the trap of “what if”. I promise you that in the attempt to live a life of purpose, you will find fulfillment, direction, and joy.
